Creative Workshops with High Peak Artists

High Peak Artists run a wide selection of creative workshops throughout the year. So, if you need a break from hiking or touring our gorgeous stately homes, here’s what’s on offer.

The High Peak Artists group is based at the Gallery in the Gardens in Buxton, Derbyshire. This vibrant collective showcases the incredible talent of 45 local artists and craftspeople, offering a diverse range of disciplines from painting and ceramics to jewellery and textiles.

The Gallery in the Gardens is open every day (except Christmas Day), with varying times throughout the year, so be sure to check their opening hours before your visit. But beyond admiring the beautiful artwork on display, High Peak Artists also offers an exciting array of workshops designed to get you involved. The workshops take place across the Peak District. Here’s everything you need to know.

Jewellery Workshops with Adele Kime

Adele Kime, a seasoned textile designer and jewellery artist, invites you to her peaceful canal-side garden studio in Whaley Bridge. With 18 years of experience in adult education, Adele ensures a fun and friendly atmosphere, perfect for beginners and those looking to refine their skills. Workshops run from 10:30 am to 4 pm with a maximum of four learners, guaranteeing individual attention. You’ll leave with a unique piece of jewellery.

All workshop costs include materials, refreshments and homemade cake (please bring your own lunch). Adele also offers one-on-one tuition and tailored workshops for groups.

One-day workshops include:

  • Make a silver ring: £79 (includes £10 of silver)
  • Creating textures, earrings or pendant in copper/silver: £69/£79 (includes £10 of silver)
  • Bangle making: £75 copper or £105 silver (includes £35 of silver)
  • Colourful 3D felted jewellery with aluminium metal elements: £69
  • Machine embroidery jewellery on dissolvable fabrics: £69

Two-day workshops include:

  • Tube set gemstone silver ring: £179 (includes £35 silver/stone)
  • Spinner silver ring: £169 (includes £25 of silver)
  • Silver precious metal clay (earrings/pendant): £189 (includes £25 silver clay)

Workshops with Elizabeth Swift and Hannah Dodd

Elizabeth Swift offers immersive felting workshops in her New Mills home, combining wet felting and needle felting to create stunning two-dimensional pieces. Workshops run on Tuesdays and Sundays from 10 am to 3:30 pm, costing £75, and include hot drinks and homemade cakes (bring your own lunch). Shorter afternoon sessions are also available for making felted bookmarks, hearts, cards, or needle-felted pictures for £35. All skill levels are welcome!

Fine Art Workshops with Louise Jannetta

Join fine artist Louise Jannetta in her Buxton studio for inspiring workshops running from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Many materials are provided, but remember to bring your favourite brushes and some paints. Refreshments are served all day, but you’ll need to bring your own lunch.

Lessons are restricted to just six customers per session, allowing Louise to provide focused tuition tailored to each person’s needs. The cost for a day lesson is £60.00.

Creative Exploration with Pam Smart, Fine Artist

Pam Smart brings over 25 years of teaching experience to her diverse art workshops held in her light and spacious studio in Buxton. Beginners are always welcome, and all materials and lunch are provided! Pam’s popular courses cover drawing, painting, and mixed media, exploring themes like flowers, architecture, landscape, insects, natural forms, and sketchbook making. Pastel and Charcoal Workshops with Sandra Orme

Experience the award-winning artist Sandra Orme’s popular workshops at her studio just outside Buxton, boasting stunning valley views. With a degree in Fine Art and over 20 years of teaching, Sandra’s workshops are suitable for all levels. Subjects include ‘Sunsets in Pastel,’ ‘Breaking Waves,’ and ‘Exploring Trees.’ Sandra’s new book on ‘Painting Pastel Skies’ is also available for pre-order!
