Priestley Cottage is a wonderful retreat sleeping up to three guests. The property features a stylish country kitchen with built-in appliances, quartz worktops, and a waste disposal system for added convenience.
Downstairs you’ll find a spacious open-plan living area with underfloor heating, along with a private enclosed patio, perfect for relaxing with friends and family. The dining table seats three, and there’s a Smart TV and Alexa to enjoy when you’re not out exploring the beautiful Derbyshire Dales.
Upstairs you’ll find two bedrooms, one super king and one single, along with an elegant vintage-style bathroom featuring a walk-in rain shower. All our cottages are stocked with our luxury range of toiletries, specially made for Wheeldon Trees by Peak Soap in Bakewell.
As a Wheeldon Trees guest, you’re free to roam throughout our 12 acres of Peak District National Park, making friends with cows and sheep (or enjoying the local pub). If you love walking, you can bag a trig by climbing to the top of High Wheeldon directly from your cottage front door. Guests have access to the entire retreat, including Voltshare EV charging for electric cars, an honesty shop stocked with luxury Great Taste Award treats, and a spacious games room that provides a welcoming place to gather, relax, or dine, complete with a pool table and a 75-inch TV. There’s also a range of electric bikes available to borrow, perfect for exploring the local area.
If you’re working during your stay, you’re very welcome to make use of our peaceful office under the trees — a quiet, comfortable space with beautiful views, superfast WiFi, and a printer to make working away from home that little bit easier.

Pat and John’s long weekend in Priestley cottage
Lucky us! We were one of the first guests to experience the newly renovated Priestley Cottage at Wheeldon Trees.
The cottage has recently undergone a total renovation and we can definitely say it’s one of the most stunning cottages we have stayed in, in Derbyshire.
Total Renovation
In May 2022 Steve and Hazel, Wheeldon Trees’ owners gave Priestley Cottage the same makeover as the newly renovated Farmhouse. This includes new oak flooring, a stunning country cottage kitchen with built in appliances, beautiful voiles and blinds in a rich linen, a gorgeous new bathroom with walk in shower and two very cosy bedrooms.
Nothing has been left to chance and it really felt like a treat to escape to the Peak District to enjoy a few days away.
The Retreat
The first thing you need to know about Wheeldon Trees is that you are getting so much more than just a cosy country cottage. The retreat offers EV charging for electric cars, an honesty shop (try the local ice-cream in the freezer), electric bikes to borrow as you wish, a children’s play area and new for 2022 an updated games room.
Perfect Setting
They say that Wheeldon Trees has one of the best views in the Peak District and we would whole heartedly agree. The views go on for miles. Inside the cottages are some handy walks directly from your cottage door and we enjoyed several of these. A favourite was the one that takes you to the local pub – The Packhorse!
Days Out
There are lots of Derbyshire attractions close to the cottages. Several of them have discounts for Wheeldon Trees guests. We visited Chatsworth using the tickets and next time we visit we will go to see Haddon Hall using a discounted ticket.
Priestley Cottage definitely provides everything you need for a Peak District weekend. We will definitely be back and will be recommending it to friends.
