Our reviews are as good as our views
We love Wheeldon Trees and are definitely not shy in telling everyone! However what really matters is what our customers think. Here you’ll find some of our latest Trip Advisor reviews and can read what people really think following their visit to our beautiful Peak District cottage retreat.
Sheldon Cottage, and the complex was simply perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wheeldon Tree Cottages.
Hazel & Steve have clearly thought of everything (for both humans... read more and dogs) and we cannot fault a thing. We have already recommended it to family and we are hoping to book another stay before the end of the year.
Thank you for everything, and for providing the perfect accommodation.
We just had to leave this review online so that everyone else can see how much we enjoyed our stay at Wheeldon Tree Cottages.
Until next time.

We booked last minute, to stay 3 nights between Christmas and New Year. We called Steve first to check about dogs and then booked easily online. The cottage has everything... read more we needed - the weather wasn’t kind to us, so the large washing machine in the laundry was very useful. I was working remotely 1 day from the cottage and no issues with WiFi. Loved that we could recycle our rubbish and the cottage was spotless. A really magical break, which included a couple of go’s at ‘that hill’! Steve even let us know the cottage would be ready early, which was a lovely touch

A perfect Christmas retreat! - We spent Christmas in the farmhouse with family and it was wonderful. Chocolate box countryside and a perfect family retreat, beautifully equipped and furnished with lots of Christmas touches. Steve... read more and Hazel put a lot of effort into Wheeldon Cottages and it shows. The wood burning hot tub was great and the little honesty shop proved very handy. The kitchen easily accommodated a full turkey dinner. Fantastic oven and hob! Thanks for a great and memorable stay

We had an excellent family Christmas in both Sheldon (ideal for those less mobile) and Elliott cottages. We spent most of our time in Sheldon as it was more spacious for the joint gatherings and it also meant we could enjoy the beautiful valley views (when the clouds cleared!).
It was a pleasure to return to Derbyshire and the beautiful Peak District. I echo the positive comments others have made. I wholeheartedly recommend and would happily return again in future.

It is really well equipped with everything you need for a fantastic self catering holiday. Private patio area out the back... read more of our cottage and there was a small general store and a games room which we made use of. Also, there are plenty of maps available for walks from the cottage. Would definitely recommend for families and couples.

10 December 2022
Just returned from a lovely relaxed weekend at Wheeldon Trees Cottages. We were two couples staying in Sheldon Cottage which is wheelchair accessible, all on one level and nicely... read more laid out, very tastefully decorated and wonderfully clean. There was a welcome bag full of quality goodies and the general impression was one of very high quality without being stuffy at all.
Steve, the owner, popped round to welcome us, check that we had everything we needed and share some tips about local walks and so on before leaving us to enjoy our weekend. We cooked for ourselves and were not short of any utensils or equipment and the neat expanding table meant we had plenty of room to dine.
We liked that ther were lots of thoughtful little touches such as headtorches and umbrellas by the door, a little bottle of olive oil for cooking and so on. It's clear that there is someone paying great attention to detail here.
The four of us took Steve's advice and borrowed the e-bikes for a ride up the Tissington trail, which is an old railway track turned into a very pleasant cycle and walking path. The e-bikes were brand new and very simple to operate after a couple of minutes explanation.
The scenery around the area really is extremely beautfiul, with a stunning view from our cottage. If we had been staying longer we could have used the maps for what looked like some great walks straight from the front door.
There's a secluded little patio area at the back of the cottage which would be perfect for a summer's evening but it was too chilly for that, although the cottage itself was lovely and toasty with undefloor heating throughout - powered by a ground source heat pump from what it says in the handbook. The night sky was wonderfully clear so we did a little star gazing too.
The bathrooms were perfectly clean - they really looked like they had just been installed and the bed was very comfortable.
We didn't use most of the available facilities (honesty shop, laundry room, EV charger, games room and so on) but they looked every bit as tasteful and well thought out as the cottage itself.
Overall - a wonderful, cosy place to stay for a quiet and relaxing break. A very high quality cottage with a warm and friendly feeling. Just lovely.

The honesty shop was a great touch and our host Steve was excellent. We were also left a welcome bag of goodies on arrival including eggs, butter, coffee, tea and some chocolate treats which were much appreciated. The cottage was extremely clean and tidy. The area itself was fantastic for walking/hiking and we had a good walk from the door of the cottage out to Chrome Hill. We would definitely recommend Steve and Wheeldon Tree Cottages to anyone wanting a perfect getaway in the Peak District and we look forward to returning in the future.

From the first point of contact it was clear we were dealing with the crème de la crème of self-catering holidays. We had a specific request after booking to ensure... read more the stay was special for our children, one of whom is autistic. Steve responded promptly to our emails with the perfect solution. The online booking system is smooth and user-friendly, and we felt confident that this would be a lovely holiday from the outset.
On arrival, the cleanliness of the cottage could not be faulted - from the kitchen and all the crockery and cutlery, which was immaculate, to the bedding in both bedrooms - freshly laundered, clean and inviting, which is super important for me to feel at home. In addition to this, the additional touches like the welcome pack and the complimentary toiletries gave a luxe feel to the stay; it married the kind of boutique B&B we would have stayed in before we became parents with everything we now need as a family of four.
The facilities such as the honesty shop - with Halloween sweets for the children - and the games room with the air hockey table really show that Steve and Hazel have thought about their guests and anticipated their needs. Feeling welcomed without any sense of intrusion is a delicate balance but at Wheeldon Trees, this balance has been achieved to perfection. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful and the walks from the cottage offer some of the most breathtaking scenery I think I've ever seen.
This is a very classy establishment run by people who not only know hospitality but are quite clearly redefining it for the needs of the modern family. I can't fault it - Steve and Hazel, thank you so much. We had an absolute blast. Our son - who usually asks when we're going home every night when we're on holiday - didn't ask us once for the entirety of our stay. Instinctively, he felt at home. This was the greatest gift of all for us, and it made our year.
We will be back!
Thank you, Wheeldon Trees - Steve and Hazel, for giving us some fabulous family memories to cherish. xxx

The cottage is in a quiet, secluded area with stunning views across the Peak District and this just added to the sense of beauty and that feeling of being away from it all. (I had forgotten how beautiful the Peak District is!)
We visited Bakewell and the stunning Chatsworth Estate during our stay (both less than thirty minutes away) and would happily have stayed for longer exploring the area.
Steve and Hazel have clearly thought about everything including: the ‘Honesty Shop’, laundry facilities, family games room, electric bikes, EV charging point, reduced price tickets for the Chatsworth Estate and the welcome bag of goodies!
It is definitely one of the best places we have ever stayed in and we hope to return again at some point in the near future.

The cottages cater for children without being designed specifically around their needs.
The Farmhouse is superbly ( and stylishly ) decorated, well equipped and very comfortable.
A small 'honesty' store is a well thought out bonus.
While the rest of the country was basking in sunny weather during our stay, this particular corner of Derbyshire certainly wasn't and the rooms, apart from the sitting room with log burner and the snug with electric heater, were on the cool side.
Try the hot tub - but be aware that it takes a lot longer to heat to an acceptable level than is indicated in the instruction folder - especially if the ambient temperature is cool.
We also had a visit from the well being company which was excellent.
We will almost certainly make a return visit. More

The Farmhouse was Absolutely amazing, couldn’t believe how well equipped it was, literally everything had been thought of.
The kitchen was large, and had everything you needed. Loved the sociable table in the centre, just made the weekend with family even nicer.
The sitting areas where beautiful, and spacious. We were 2 couples and a single person, and we had plenty of room, didn’t feel on top of each other, as the farmhouse had various rooms to relax in.
The snug tv room was my favourite relaxing space.
The bedrooms were fantastic, we stayed in the en suite room which was huge, with lovely views. Bed was so comfy, had the best night sleep.
Bathroom was lovely, with plenty of toiletries, white company which I love.
The hot tub was a lovely added touch.
Such an amazing place well recommended, would love to return More

To echo many of the other reviews, this place is fabulous! The hosts create such a relaxing atmosphere in a gorgeous part of the peak district. Any signage... read more is written in such a lovely, light hearted way - none of the usual "don't do this', 'don't do that' etc.
There's an honesty shop with a good range of essentials, plus on arrival there was milk, eggs, butter plus other bits in the cottage. The actual accommodation was perfect with high end touches such as white company accessories, Joseph and Joseph in the kitchen. To be honest, it felt more like a hotel in many ways with all the extra touches. There is also a store with items to borrow such as baby gates, extra covers, etc - anything you can think of which you might need during your stay.
We went with our dog and they were massively dog friendly - not a place which only 'tolerates' dogs. There is a field where the pupper can be off lead. Also, our place (Lomas) had a small outside area, front and back, which was gated, with table and chairs out back.
Such an amazing find and we look forward to returning! Thank you!

The Cottages are located within a stunning location, surrounded by a stunning countryside and wildlife.
Upon arrival, you will met one of the owners, they are incredibly friendly and accomodating, using a language that it's not the usual 'you can't do this, you can't do that in our property -this happen all the time as we have a dog!-' instead, they makes you confortable and they open their property to you to enjoy; one of the first sentence was 'open that gate (which open up a very large patch of land) so your dog can exercise and enjoy as much as he can!.
What a nice welcome!
The Cottages are stunning and full of character inside and out; we rented a bigger one for our needs (we always do that, just to have that extra-comfort); it was squeeky clean and the attention to detail is outstanding. All the accessories in the cottage are of a very high standards and well known brand (finally no Ikea -no disrpect for Ikea to be clear-). You will also find complimentary (super good) Extra virgin olive oil, milk, butter and fresh eggs (yeah, not the eggs from supermarket but properly fresh eggs from a Chicken! It was nearlyu 30 years I didn't enjoy such fresh eggs!). The owner also gifted us with a super tasty bottle of white wine!
The cottages have a stunning view, overlooking the countryside and it's very easy to have a cow or 2 saying 'hello' on your doorstep (not literally, the cows are confined by those stunning half size stone walls).
The Wifi is excellent (finally!), capable to connect you with very decent speed with the world; the Smart TV is offering Netflix and Amazon prime, a huge plus!
Within the property you can also find an 'honesty shop' with the finest product from the area; you will decide what to pay for them!! You will also find another room with anything you can think of that helps you with the experience of your stay: from iron board, to more crokery, to more pillows, sheets etc.
All for free! The owners clearly knows how to makes a customer happy!
The property also offer a (FREE!!) charging point for Electic veichle if you have one as well as free washing machine with all the necessary to run it!
I've never ever experienced such friendliness, availability and opennes towards guests: I TOTALLY recommend you to book your stay, you will have an amazing experience 360', guarranteed!
We will definitely book again soon!

The location of the cottages is about half an hour away from Chatsworth, we spent a couple of days over that way (Chatsworth + Ladybower) the drive to and from is gorgeous so it didn’t feel that far.
We would definitely return to Wheeldon and stay more local, exploring the local hikes and pubs nearby.
