The Level Centre Rowsley

The Level Centre is a creative oasis in the heart of the Peak District.

Planning an autumn getaway to the Peak District National Park? While you’re enjoying the scenic hikes and stunning landscapes of Derbyshire, make sure to add a truly unique stop to your itinerary. The Level Centre in Rowsley is more than just a gallery—it’s a vibrant charity that celebrates the power of art to create meaningful connections and change lives.

Just a short drive from Wheeldon Trees Cottages, the Level Centre offers a welcoming and inclusive space where everyone is valued. As an Arts Council England-funded organisation, it’s a hub for creativity. It features free exhibitions, hands-on workshops and opportunities to connect with artists.

What’s On This Autumn

This autumn, the Level Centre is hosting three compelling exhibitions from September 16, 2025, to January 9, 2026.

I SEE You: The Power of Being Seen

This powerful exhibition is a stunning quilt created by 122 parents of children with non-visible disabilities. The project is led by textile artist Lois Blackburn. It invited parent carers to share their stories of care, grief and resilience through stitch and reflection. The result is a beautiful, moving testament to visibility and love. What’s more it is now travelling across the UK.

Wishing Well

Step into the tranquil, dream-like village of “Levelover” with this interactive installation by artist Sian Morrell and the Level Youth Collective. Inspired by the traditional Derbyshire practice of Well Dressing, this sensory and peaceful space invites you to make a wish and help create a beautiful Well Dressing for a local Water Sprite. It’s an accessible and fun experience for all ages and a great way to learn about a unique local tradition.

LEVEL HED Presents

This exhibition showcases work from the Level HED programme. It’s a creative group for young people who are home-educated. The show features a series of printworks and a film documenting the participants’ journey as they built confidence and learned new skills with artist and educator Abbie Canning.

The Level Centre is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. It’s always a good idea to contact them or check their website before visiting, as their team is often out working on community projects.

Don’t miss the chance to experience this special place where creativity and community come together. The Level Centre Rowsley offers a memorable and enriching experience for your autumn trip to the Peak District.
