Founded in the early 15th century, Flash peeks out from the southern slope of Axe Edge Moor.  Panoramic views encompass the wild open countryside, showcasing the Staffordshire Moorlands, the Derbyshire hills, and even the Cheshire plain.  Charming houses line quiet lanes, creating a tranquil and picturesque escape. The village boasts the New Inn, which proudly holds the title of England’s highest pub, and just outside Flash, you’ll find Flash Bar Stores, the highest shop in England according to the Express.

However, Flash’s history isn’t all about breathtaking views and cosy pubs.  Its remote location and past poverty made it a hotspot for unsavoury characters in search of a haven from the law.  The village became notorious for illegal activities like cock-fighting, prizefighting, and even counterfeiting.  In fact, for many years, counterfeit money was known as “Flash money”.  Flash’s strategic position on the borders of three counties proved particularly advantageous for these activities – when law enforcement from one county closed in, the criminals simply relocated to the next.

Despite its dark past, Flash has transformed into a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.  Its proximity to the scenic Three Shires Head, where three counties converge around pools, waterfalls, and stone bridges, makes it an ideal base for exploration.  Hikers and climbers will find themselves within easy reach of The Roaches and Ramshaw Rocks, popular hotspots for challenging climbs and scenic walks.
