February Half-Term Fun in the Peaks

School’s out, and the Peaks are calling – if you’re looking for some February half-term fun, here are a few ideas.

Whether you’re seeking a cultural outing, a creative LEGO session, or a thrilling zip-lining adventure, the Peak District has something for everyone this half term.

We’ve highlighted three options, all located near our cosy cottages, which are perfect for a family day out.

Tortoise & the Hare at Buxton Opera House

What: This playful Northern Ballet performance retells the classic story of the fast-talking Hare and the determined Tortoise.

Who: Perfect for little ones (and their grown-ups!) who are new to live ballet and music.

When: Tuesday 20th February, 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm (autism-friendly performance).

Why: Sing along, cheer, and be inspired by this delightful tale brought to life on stage.

Tickets: £11 for adults, £9 for children (with a £2 discount!).

LEGO Fun at Brick Corner, Buxton

What: Unleash your inner builder with boxes of LEGO to explore, while grown-ups relax with a coffee and cake.

Who: LEGO fans of all ages! Even parents can join the fun.

When: Throughout the February half term.

Extra Fun: Special LEGO robotic and coding sessions are happening! Build, code, and see your creation come to life!

Go Ape Adventure in Buxton Country Park

What: Swing through the trees, tackle zip lines, and enjoy an exhilarating outdoor experience.

Who: Suitable for adventurous families with children aged 10+ (minimum height of 1.4 metres).

When: Throughout the February half term.

Why: Get your adrenaline pumping with this exciting challenge in the fresh air.

Note: An adult must supervise children aged 10-15 on the course. Older teens can go it alone.

10 stunning cottages

We have 10 stunning cottages in 12 acres of Peak District National Park. Alongside luxury cottages, our rural retreat offers free EV charging and an honesty shop packed to the brim with goodies. In addition, we have a fantastic games room where you can play pool, air hockey or ping pong. We have two new electric bikes for you to borrow to explore the local area. What’s more, we have recently added two new hybrid bikes.

The Farmhouse is our flagship property. The cottage underwent a six-figure refurbishment in 2022 and today oozes luxury and style. Nadin, Ollerenshaw, Priestley and Mycock have also been upgraded in the last year.

Our three dog-friendly cottages are Critchlow, Lomas and Ollerenshaw. Sheldon Cottage is our fantastic accessible cottage with the best views in the house.

TripAdvisor recently named Wheeldon Trees in the top 10% of places to stay in the world. Thanks to our visitors’ amazing reviews, we recently received the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award 2023 for the second year running. To complete the hat trick, we were also the runner-up in best self-catering accommodation at this year’s Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards.
