Wheeldon Trees unveils another refurbished cottage

Wheeldon Trees Cottages unveils another refurbished cottage – Mycock Cottage is the latest property to be added to the Wheeldon Trees portfolio.

Hazel and Steve Roche purchased the luxury retreat of cottages in the summer of 2021. An immediate investment programme to improve the cottages and facilities began straight away and the latest completed renovation is Mycock Cottage.

Tourism -industry recognition

The Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards recognised the Wheeldon Trees team’s work this week. After just 18 months, Wheeldon Trees was presented with a silver award in the best self-catering category.

Speaking of the award, Steve said: “To be recognised by the tourism industry after just 18 months in business is truly wonderful. We came to Wheeldon Trees with very little experience but bags of enthusiasm to create a luxury Peak District retreat. We want to create an oasis where people can get away from everyday life and live in the slow lane, even if it’s just for a few days.

“Our reviews on Trip Advisor continue to astound us. This really is a team effort and we couldn’t have achieved everything without the support of the team around us. The award and our visitor feedback make us even more ambitious for the future and we have lots of plans for the rest of 2023 and into 2024.”

Teamwork makes the dream work

Since June 2021, the Wheeldon team has:

  • Totally renovated the Farmhouse with a £100,000 refurbishment programme. The Farmhouse is now a five-star gold Visit England property
  • Introduced a posh local produce honesty shop
  • Built an office under the trees for guests to use while staying at the retreat
  • Renovated Priestley, Nadin, Ollerenshaw and Mycock Cottages
  • Renovated the games room, installing new equipment for visitors to use
  • Introduced new soft furnishings and decoration to the remaining properties
  • Added new electric bikes

Mycock Cottage is the latest refurbishment to be completed. It’s had a new vintage-style bathroom with a walk-in rain shower, new décor, new soft furnishings and new flooring. The luxury cottage sleeps three people. Downstairs there’s an open-plan living area and upstairs a double and a single bedroom. It has its own private patio. The cottage is set within a retreat with an honesty shop selling posh local goodies, free EV charging, an outdoor play area, free electric bikes and a games room.
