Trekking Tom Experiences will lead a Dark Sky Hike from Castleton on Monday 6 October…

One of the UK’s most spectacular outdoor events, the Chatsworth Country Fair, returns for a three-day extravaganza from Friday, August 29 to Sunday, August 31, 2025. Set against the stunning backdrop of Chatsworth House in the Peak District, this event is a must for anyone who loves rural life, thrilling displays, and a great day out for the whole family.
All the Family
The fair is a packed schedule of entertainment, with something to captivate every member of the family. The Grand Ring is the centerpiece, hosting thrilling spectacles from the air and on land. Visitors can also enjoy a cookery theatre with celebrity chefs, a vast food and craft village and over 300 trade stands. For those who want to get involved, there are plenty of “have-a-go” activities and traditional country sports to try. A funfair and a climbing wall are also on offer to keep the kids entertained.
This year’s fair is set to be officially opened by Harriet Cowen, the star from the TV show Clarkson’s Farm, on Friday, August 29. With free on-site parking and children aged 15 and under entering for free, it’s a great value day out.
Tickets and Pricing
Tickets for the 2025 Chatsworth Country Fair are available to purchase online, with a discount for booking in advance. A one-day ticket costs £32.50 if purchased online before August 28, and £35.00 at the gate. A standard day ticket also includes access to the Chatsworth House and Garden.
For those looking for a more exclusive experience, one-day memberships are available online only for £65 for adults, which includes lunch and access to a members-only enclosure.
The History of Chatsworth and its Fair
The story of Chatsworth is a grand one, spanning nearly 500 years. The house, gardens, and vast estate have been the home of the Cavendish family for 17 generations. The first house was built in the 16th century by Sir William Cavendish and Bess of Hardwick. The house has evolved over centuries, from a Tudor mansion to the magnificent Baroque building we see today. It’s a Grade I listed house and home to one of Europe’s most significant private art collections.
The Chatsworth Country Fair is a more recent tradition, but it has become an integral part of the estate’s calendar. It was first held in 1980 at the request of the 11th Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, with the aim of celebrating the best of rural Britain. The fair has been a much-loved annual fixture ever since. A unique and charming part of its history is the “Red Socks,” a team of volunteers who have helped run the event since the beginning, many of whom are now third-generation volunteers. The fair also serves a charitable purpose, with profits supporting the Red Socks Charitable Trust and the Chatsworth House Trust.
