Visitors to Hardwick Hall can experience an Elizabethan Christmas this year.

At Wheeldon Trees Cottages we’re perfectly placed to explore some of the Peak District’s most magnificent stately homes as they get dressed up for the festive season.

Alongside Chatsworth, we have Hardwick Hall. This year the Hall is offering a unique and magical Christmas experience that steps away from the usual tinsel and baubles.

This year, Hardwick Hall is celebrating Wintertide with a special theme: The Tale of Misrule and the Holly King. It’s a journey back in time. It will explore old Elizabethan traditions of celebration, community and connection.

A Wintertide Adventure

From November 17th to January 4th, Hardwick Hall will be transformed. Forget the conventional Christmas decor. At Hardwick you’ll be immersed in a world where the mischievous Lord of Misrule has been preparing for his grand party, neglecting his duties to the Holly King and the winter spirits.

As you wander through the historic hall, you’ll discover that all is not as it seems. The natural world has run riot inside. You’ll be part of the story to see if the Lord of Misrule can make amends and “un-muddle” Hardwick before it’s too late. The processional route will be beautifully dressed for the occasion, creating a truly atmospheric and immersive experience for all ages.
