Peak District Highland Games

Get ready for an epic day of strength and skill as the Peak District Highland Games returns.

This year’s event takes place at Matlock Farm Park on Sunday, August 24. It promises a thrilling spectacle for all ages.

Now in its ninth year, the games will feature some of the nation’s strongest men and women. They will be competing for the prestigious title of 2025 Peak District Highland Games Champion. You’ll see athletes go head-to-head in six demanding strength events. This will include the classic Tossing of the Caber, the Eight Tonne Tractor Pull and the Peak District Dinnie Stone Challenge.

Parade

The day kicks off with a parade of athletes. This year it will be led by the sounds of the City of Manchester Piper Band and a team of Scottish dancers. Throughout the competition, an expert MC will provide exciting commentary. You might even get the chance to test your own strength in the popular Tug of War.

As Lotty Hawkins, Communications Manager of Matlock Farm Park, says, “It’s a real spectacle for visitors to see and with so much else going on in the park, there’s something for everyone.”

Beyond the intense competition, the event offers a fantastic day out for the whole family. You can browse a variety of food, market and craft stalls. Alongside this, grab a refreshing pint from the Bradfield Brewery beer tent or relax in the gin garden. All the usual farm park fun will also be available. This will include sheep racing, pony rides, and small animal petting.

Historic third title?

This year’s competition is set to be a nail-biter. Defending champion Matt Cole is aiming for a historic third title, while new talent like young strongman Jordan Davies and returning favourite Richard Hanson are sure to give him a run for his money. In the women’s category, reigning champion Michaela Pearson will face off against international athlete Holly Ford, making for a closely contested battle.
