Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football – 13-14 February 2024

What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than a date at Ashbourne’s Royal Shrovetide Football?

Did you know the oldest football game is just twenty minutes from Wheeldon Trees Cottages? Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football is an annual spectacular not to be missed.

Played in Ashbourne every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday the game is thought to be one of the oldest forms of football in the world. Every year the town’s streets, fields and streams are filled with thousands of players and spectators who follow the match. We live in Ashbourne and you can already see groups in training for the big event most evenings.

Chatsworth International Horse Trials – 17-19 May 2024

Calling all equestrian enthusiasts and thrill seekers! Dust off your picnic blankets and polish your binoculars, because the Chatsworth International Horse Trials are galloping back into Derbyshire from May 17 to 19, 2024. Get ready for three days of world-class competition, breathtaking displays, and family-friendly fun amidst the stunning backdrop of Chatsworth House.

This prestigious event is a true feast for the senses. Witness the grace and precision of dressage, where horse and rider become one in a mesmerising ballet of movement. Feel the adrenaline pump as daring duos tackle the show jumping course, soaring over colourful fences in a test of agility and speed. Then, hold your breath as they navigate the cross-country, a thrilling steeplechase through the picturesque Chatsworth parkland, testing both horse and rider’s courage and stamina.

But the Chatsworth Horse Trials are more than just equestrian excellence. Classic Ibiza – 13 July 2024

Classic Ibiza, the outdoor dance music event that combines iconic house anthems with a 32-piece orchestra, is coming to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire on Saturday 13 July 2024.

The event promises five hours of Balearic-infused dance anthems.

Why not end your rhythm of the night with a spot of luxury? Our retreat of holiday cottages is just 30 minutes away from Chatsworth. And, after five hours of dancing, there’s surely nothing better than watching the sun rise over Chrome Hill back at our place. Just imagine, freshly ground Wheeldon Trees coffee, some mellow tunes and the rising sun – you could almost be in Café Del Mar!

Classic Ibiza is now in its 12th year and has become a popular summer fixture. It attracts crowds of all ages to dance to classic Ibiza tracks from the likes of Fatboy Slim, David Guetta, and Calvin Harris.

The Urban Soul Orchestra will headline the 2024 line-up. DJ sets from Goldierocks and former Pacha Ibiza resident Jose Luis will join them.

There will also be a spectacular laser and light show to accompany the music.

In addition to the music, Classic Ibiza also offers a variety of food and drink options, including bars, street food vendors, and picnic areas.

2024 International Buxton Festival – 4-21 July 2024

The Farmhouse is our flagship property. The cottage underwent a six-figure refurbishment in 2022 and today oozes luxury and style. Nadin, Ollerenshaw, Priestley and Mycock have also been upgraded in the last year.

Our three dog-friendly cottages are Critchlow, Lomas and Ollerenshaw. Sheldon Cottage is our fantastic accessible cottage with the best views in the house.
