Hartington Cheese Shop
No visit to Wheeldon Trees is complete without a trip to the Hartington Cheese Shop. The Hartington Cheese Shop is a must-visit destination for any cheese lover. Located in the picturesque village of Hartington, it’s just a 10-minute drive from our Peak District cottages.
The Wheeldon Trees honesty shop stocks a selection of Hartington’s cheeses in the fridge, along with a few delicious crackers.
However, to get a true appreciation of the selection of cheeses, a visit is a must.
The shop has been owned by the same people since 2009. They are passionate about cheese and they have a wealth of knowledge about the different types of cheese and their origins. They are always happy to help customers choose the perfect cheese for their taste and budget.
The Hartington Cheese Shop sells a wide range of cheeses, from British classics such as cheddar and stilton to more unusual cheeses from around the world. The shop also stocks a range of cheese-related products, such as crackers, chutneys, and preserves.
The real thrill for us about Hartington is the wide selection of local cheeses. Here are a few to try:
- Hartington Stilton: This is a blue cheese that is made from cow’s milk. It has a rich, creamy flavour and a slightly crumbly texture.
- Hartington Cheddar: This is a hard cheese that is made from cow’s milk. It has a sharp, nutty flavour and a smooth, velvety texture.
- Hartington Truckle: This is a small, round cheese that is made from cow’s milk. It has a mild, nutty flavour and a creamy texture.
- Dovedale Blue: This is a soft blue cheese that is made from cow’s milk. It has a rich, creamy flavour and a slightly mouldy rind.
Hartington is a great place to visit for those who love the outdoors. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and there are a number of walking and hiking trails to choose from. Hartington is also a popular destination for cyclists, and there are a number of cycle routes that pass through the village.
Alongside the cheese shop, you’ll find a selection of cafes and the legendary Hartington Village Stores.
