Eating Out With Children This Summer In The Peaks - A Guide To Where To Go In 2023

Eating out with children this summer in the Peaks

Eating out with children is not always the easiest – we’ve pulled together a few local places and deals to try this summer in the Peaks.

The Bulls Head, Monyash

The Bulls Head is just a short drive from Wheeldon Trees. It serves brilliant homemade food. What’s more, it has a large outdoor play area with a variety of equipment, including a climbing frame, slide, and swings.

English Heritage sites

Are you a member of English Heritage? Members visiting English Heritage’s most popular sites can feed youngsters for free when they spend £10 or more in the cafe. The offer is for kids under 18. It includes up to two free children’s lunch boxes, which include a sandwich, snack, sweet treat, juice box and fruit. Derbyshire’s Bolsover Castle is included in the offer.

The Wheatsheaf, Bakewell

The Wheatsheaf in Bakewell is offering free children’s meals this summer. The offer applies to children under eight years old. One free child’s main meal is included with the purchase of an adult main meal. Adult main meals start at £14. While it’s not the cheapest way to eat out, you are getting chef-prepared fresh food. What’s more, most of this has been locally sourced. The pub is family-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole gang along. The Wheatsheaf also has a small indoor play area with a variety of equipment, including a slide, ball pit, and soft play area.

Morrison’s

Under-16s can eat for free at any of Morrisons’ 398 cafes across the UK when an adult spends £4.49 or more on a meal. The nearest Morrison’s to Wheeldon Trees is Buxton.

The children’s menus are available all day and include chicken nuggets with chips and beans, bangers and mash and mac and cheese. A children’s meal deal (a combination of a sandwich, snack and drink worth £3.49) can be claimed for free when purchased alongside any adult meal with a value of £4.49 or more. Until 13 August, any adults or children who ‘Ask for Ellen’ can receive two toasted crumpets, with butter and jam for free.

Perfect cottages for families

Wheeldon Trees is perfect for active families. Our rural retreat offers free EV charging and an honesty shop packed to the brim with goodies. In addition we have a fantastic games room where you can play pool, air hockey or ping pong. We also have two new electric bikes for you to borrow to explore the local area.

In 2023 five of our cottages were rated 5-Star Gold by VisitEngland. The Farmhouse retained its 5-Star Gold rating from 2020. And now Priestley Cottage, Ollerenshaw Cottage, Nadin Cottage and Mycock Cottage join it with top marks. The remaining five cottages – Sheldon, Walker’s Rest, Critchlow, Elliott and Lomas were all rated 4-Star Gold. In addition, TripAdvisor recently named Wheeldon Trees in the top 10% of places to stay in the world. Thanks to our visitors’ amazing reviews, we were delighted to be awarded the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award 2022. To complete the hat trick, we were also the runner-up in best self-catering accommodation at this year’s Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards.
