Afternoon tea in the Peak District

Afternoon tea in the Peak District – what could be better? Enjoying one of our chocolate box locations while eating cake and drinking tea.

There are several places where you can enjoy afternoon tea in the Peak District, ranging from traditional tea rooms to luxury hotels.

Here’s a list of our favourites.

Thornbridge Hall

Thornbridge Hall is renowned for its stunning gardens, historic architecture, and its popular afternoon tea experience. You can enjoy your afternoon tea in Quackers Café or book the Orangery if you want to make it more of an event.

The tea is served on a three-tiered stand and includes a selection of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and jam, and a variety of homemade cakes and pastries. Guests can choose from a range of loose-leaf teas or freshly brewed coffee to accompany their food. You can add Champagne or Prosecco for an enhanced experience!

Bookings are online.

Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop

The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop afternoon tea is serviced all day.

There are four teas to choose from – All Things Bakewell, the Gentleman’s Club, the Derbyshire Classic and The Works.

All Things Bakewell includes Bakewell Tar, Bakewell Pudding and a slice of Mrs Wilson’s Fruit Cake. The Gentleman’s Club includes pork pie, glaze ham, sliced beef and warm cheese scones. The Derbyshire Classic includes Bakewell pudding and a luxury sultana scone and The Works includes macaroons, Bakewell Pudding, Bakewell Tart, luxury fruit scones and a glass of Prosecco.

The Lavender Tea Rooms

The Lavender Tea Rooms is centrally located in Bakewell. What’s more the team works with local suppliers to provide freshly made cakes, pastries and tarts, homemade sandwiches on freshly baked bread. In addition, proper coffee and perfectly blended loose-leaf teas are all served in and on vintage, mismatched crockery.

Afternoon teas are their speciality and are best enjoyed in the upstairs dining area looking out over the bustling courtyard. There’s a choice of Traditional, Deluxe, Vegetarian and Vegan afternoon teas all served on traditional tiered stands. Booking in advance is recommended to guarantee availability.

The Cavendish Hotel

Head to the Cavendish Hotel for a totally luxurious tea. The hotel is just a stone’s throw from Chatsworth. Fine China, silver servers and the very best afternoon tea will include home-baked sausage rolls, cheese savoury slices, finger sandwiches, homemade scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam and Chatsworth lemons and passionfruit petit gateaux. You can wash it all down with your favourite Champagne.

These are just a few options for afternoon tea in the Peak District, but there are many more to choose from depending on your preferences and location. It’s always a good idea to book in advance to avoid disappointment, especially during peak tourist seasons.
