Solo Travelling In The Peaks

Solo travelling in the Peak District

The Peak District is a welcome friend for those who enjoy solo travelling. We’ve had a welcome flurry of solo travellers enjoying our Peak District cottages recently. Some were looking to recharge their batteries away from a demanding career. Others were simply enjoying Derbyshire for a few days. We even had one guest looking for peace and solitude along with his dog to finish his first novel.

The Peak District makes a welcome friend for solo travellers. If you’re craving tranquillity, there’s oodles of peace and quiet to be found in our hillsides and plenty of pretty towns and villages to explore. Visit Peak District, our local tourism agency, has a whole website dedicated to things to do during your stay.

For guests at Wheeldon Trees, we can be as visible as you want us to be. If you’re getting away from it all, you may never see us. We can leave the cottage all prepared for you with the door open. We’ll leave your welcome tote ready inside and pop fresh milk, eggs and butter in the fridge ready for your arrival.

If you love getting away from it all but want advice on the local area or simply to have a chat, we’re around most days doing jobs around Wheeldon Trees. We pride ourselves on knowing where to get the best cake.

Luxury office

If you wish to work while staying with us, feel free to use our luxury office under the trees. There’s superfast wifi, a printer and the most amazing Peak District views.

Electric bikes

Our new electric bikes are perfect if you would like to leave the car behind and head off into the hills. We can prepare the bike on your behalf, fully charged, ready for you to explore.

Honesty shop

If you would simply like to rest and relax within your cottage, our honesty shop can provide luxury treats. It’s just a few steps away from your cottage. It was recently updated to stock locally-made treats. We stock posh ready meals in our freezer, along with local bread and artisan ice cream. Pasta made in Yorkshire and jars of pasta sauces are on the shelves and there’s hand-made chocolate from over the border in Staffordshire. You can also help yourself to free fruit daily from our fruit basket.

Solo cottages

We have two cottages which are perfect for solo travellers. Ollerenshaw Cottage is dog-friendly and has recently undergone a luxurious makeover. You’ll find a brand-new kitchen, flooring, redecoration and a vintage-style bathroom with a bath and over shower. The cottage is dog-friendly. Over the courtyard, Walker’s Rest is all on one level. It features a large bedroom with a super king bed, an open plan living kitchen, dining and living room and a bathroom with both a bath and a walk-in shower. Both cottages have private terraces.

In addition to great accommodation, we offer free EV charging, free electric bikes, an honesty shop and amazing views in our 12 acres of Peak District National Park. Above all else, luxurious Derbyshire cottages. What’s more, Wheeldon Trees is packed full of amenities and is currently in the running for the Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards‘ best self-catering accommodation.
