Our reviews are as good as our views
We love Wheeldon Trees and are definitely not shy in telling everyone! However what really matters is what our customers think. Here you’ll find some of our latest Trip Advisor reviews and can read what people really think following their visit to our beautiful Peak District cottage retreat.
A great stay in a beautiful place and excellent value for money! The property was lovely, the underfloor heating in particular a lovely surprise! Really well equipped and laid out and a good quality of everything provided. Location is great, really close to Buxton and Bakewell for places to eat and drink (would recommend Baileys in Buxton (https://baileysrestaurant.co.uk/index.html), The Redwillow bar opposite (https://redwillowbrewery.com/) and The Woodyard in Bakewell (https://thewoodyardbakewell.com/). Heather was a briliiant host, contacting us in advance for our choice of wine on arrival and to let us know of all the check in arrangements etc. The welcome pack was lovely and really useful.Overall a great stay in a beautiful place and excellent value for money!

A memorable stay - high standards Our daughter Emma booked our post Christmas 3 days get-together, it was an inspired choice! We arrived before check in time and appreciated the early access. Lovely to have the Christmas decorations around, just the right amount. The weather was cold, but we were always comfortable with the warmth in the house - radiators and log burner kept us cosy. We realise heating costs will cut into profits, but no-one wants to be cold on holiday. We did turn the bedroom radiators off at night or we would have been to warm
The welcome pack was appreciated as were all the amenities in the house and on site. Great to have the little shop considering the distance to purchase elsewhere. I'm sure the 'honesty box' will be respected by guests, more accommodation should offer this if they are isolated.
As for suggestions that would make the accommodation better .I have none!

Christmas in The Farmhouse We had a fabulous Christmas week in The Farmhouse. It was warm, cosy, beautifully decorated and fully equipped. The welcome basket was also much appreciated. The honesty shop was a great addition and the complementary chocolates were a lovely surprise. The children had a lot of fun in the games room and enjoyed running across to the shop in the evenings for the ice-cream! We will very much look forward to returning for another relaxing break in a truly magical location.read moreread less

Our 4th visit to Ollerenshaw Cottage Repeat visit to Ollerenshaw cottage, part of Wheeldon Trees. We visit every year for our wedding anniversary and enjoy the warm welcome, great views and the peaceful cottage. There is an honesty shop, laundry and car charger onsite. Everthing you need for cooking and dining is provided in the cottage. It even has its own "mountain" just 10 minutes walk to the top. We love it there.read moreread less

Beautiful location Everything about these cottages was beautiful, we stayed in Sheldon with dramatic views that changed constantly with the weather. The games room with pool and air hockey was a hit with the boys. We loved the walks from the cottage, with a good selection printed out on laminated maps for us to follow, our favourite was along the dragons back! There is so much more to explore and we would love to return.read moreread less

Fabulous Peak District Cottages - Just Book It - You'll Love It ! We had a fabulous long weekend with our big kids at Wheeldon Tree Cottages. It started great with the best Welcome package ever - wine, cookies, milk, fresh eggs and more. Our cottage, NADIN, is a three story cottage - downstairs two bedrooms, and the bathroom, upstairs to a big cosy lounge/kitchen/diner, then up to the mezzanine to two more singles. In the morning we made toast and porridge, whilst the cows walked past the lounge window - happily scampering around like they were on holiday. After breakfast we hiked up High Wheeldon - that is immediately outside the house - that got our walking legs warmed up, with 360 views at the top. After lunch we walked to the top of the road, around the perimeter of the quarry, looking down on stunning, dramatic, scenery of up and down dales, and surrounded by the happiest cows, sheep, and nature. Dinner later at Packhorse Inn, and then Sunday lunch at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn. And much more. A great place for gorgeous hikes, and as a centre point for Buxton, Bakewell, and the rest of the Peaks. And a great location, if you have a big family and you want to book a few cottages. A great find - don't tell anyone 😉

Owner goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable! Wheeldon Trees Cottages is a cute little place on the southern outskirts of Buxton. The Mycock Cottage which we stayed in was very cosy, homely, clean and quiet with 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 single). What was even better than the cottage itself was Hazel who I communicated with prior to our arrival via email and text message. She really knows what she's doing to make guests feel welcome and goes the extra mile in so many ways. The first positive from Hazel was a message letting us know that fortunately the cottage was available earlier than the regular check-in time. Upon arrival at the cottage, it was perfect - we just had to go inside (no faffing trying to pick up a key and checking in). Hazel had turned the lamp and sconces on in the living area which was a nice touch rather than arriving in the dark, fumbling to find the light switch. She had also put Classic FM on the Alexa, the heating was on, there was a pint of local semi-skimmed milk, fresh local butter and a bottle of white wine in the fridge. Even though we booked super last minute (late night prior to arrival), Hazel still contacted us to ask if we would prefer a bottle of white wine, red wine or soft drink and was able to fulfill our request. It could have been so easy for her to have not bothered and simply said that because we booked so last minute, we couldn't choose and just put a bottle of whatever she had to hand in the fridge - I understand she lives off-site so she either had someone do it quickly on her behalf or she went there to do it herself. There was also a basket on the dining table which contained 6 local eggs, tea bags, a packet of ground coffee, cookies and jelly beans. Hazel had also left a hand-written card to welcome us. The cottage was very clean and there were helpful signs around the cottage such as one above the thermostat on the upstairs landing with instructions on how to adjust the heating upstairs and downstairs. There was also a folder in the lounge which contained lots of useful information about the cottages and local area. The area near the front door had plenty of hooks for jackets, a rack for muddy, wet walking boots with a tray underneath and 2 headlamps which I thought was a cute touch - definitely handy if you need to walk outside at night to the bin area or laundry area with your hands full as it's VERY dark out there at night! The bathroom was lovely - modern but in keeping with the style of the cottage with nice, citrusy toiletries (liquid hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner). The outside patio with seating was lovely although we didn't sit out there as it was too chilly. Having cows as our neighbour in the adjoining field was delightful! I would definitely like to come back again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Wheeldon Trees Cottages whilst Hazel is in charge! Definitely not a chance in hell that this place would ever be featured on one of those UK TV programs like 'The Hotel Inspector'. Any failing hotels/B&Bs definitely need to be trained by Hazel as other than putting out a red carpet for our arrival (😂) I really can't think of anything else she could have done to make our stay so comfortable and pleasant.read moreread less

Wonderful stay at Wheeldon trees This place is an absolute gem of a find - a friend of mine had stayed here some weeks ago and recommended for us to try it and we are so glad we did it is simply stunning! We stayed in Walkers rest cottage and it literally has everything - lovely bedroom with a super comfy bed, lovely bathroom with a really big bath which was the perfect size for my husband as he is 6ft! - all of the equipment that you are provided with in the cottage is super good quality and Hazel and Steve have literally thought of everything, also the setting where you are staying is so beautiful and tranquil, perfect for getting away from it all.We visited Buxton and Bakewell whilst we were here and completed two really nice walks from Bakewell - we had dinner on our first night at the Royal Oak in Hurdlow and again on our third night both nights the food was fab! and on our second night we ate at Lubens in Buxton and this was really good too.
We really loved everything that was provided here at Wheeldon and really have no complaints and we will definitely return.

Great stay in Walker’s Rest Cottage We had a lovely 6 night stay in Walker’s Rest Cottage. It’s very well equipped and everything is of a very high standard. A very quiet location surrounded by beautiful countryside. Lots of great places to visit - we particularly enjoyed Hadden Hall and The Riverside Café at the David Mellor Centre (which was also well worth a visit) in Hathersage. Hazel was very welcoming and friendly and Steve came immediately when a switch controlling the hot water had tripped.
Well deserving of 5 stars.

Great Location and quiet We had a great time at Wheeldon Tree Cottages. The cottage was well equipped, clean and well appointed. The location although very quiet ( just as we like it) there was quick access to Bakewell, Buxton and Tissington Trail. Onsite shop was helpful. We did 2 walks out of the information file which were great. The walk up Wheeldon behind the cottage gave amazing views of the countryside. We intend to return next yearread moreread less

Accommodation & facilities excellent. Everything exactly as pictured the Wheeldon website. Our first visit to the wonderful Wheeldon Trees Cottages and hopefully not our last!We had a family get-together and stayed in the The Farmhouse for 8 nights between August and September.
The accommodation and facilities were excellent and everything was exactly as shown on the Wheeldon website. A lovely peaceful location with fantastic views!
Hosts Hazel and Steve were very friendly and welcoming and, whilst they don't live on site, they were there each day if you needed anything or just wanted some local info.
The electric car charging was an essential for us and worked without any issues whatsoever.
Thanks for a great holiday!

The most wonderful week! Kind, attentive and welcoming hosts, plus beautiful accommodation in a stunning setting, we couldn't want for more. Our local bookclub embarked on its first holiday together. Wheeldon Trees Cottages was perfect for us - a big farmhouse where we all gathered for dinner and drinks (even a little dancing one night : ), and enough cottages all next door to each other to give everyone who wanted a room to themselves the space to spread out. The facilities are outstanding and the decor and furnishings just beautiful. We felt really pampered and relaxed and everyone had the best time ever.
Set amongst breath-taking scenery, we enjoyed walking - especially Wolfscote Dale - and a wander around nearby Haddon Hall. The High Peak Bookstore did us proud for brunch on a couple of occasions. Many of us (aged from 62-82 years young) managed the short climb up Wheeldon Hill - once at 7 in the morning - and we are so glad we did.
Such a fab week - and our very grateful thanks goes to our generous hosts Hazel and Steve xx

Wonderful Wheeldon Tree Cottages A wonderful week’s stay at Wheeldon Tree Cottages. We stayed in Critchlow cottage and it was perfect for two people, although it does have 2 bedrooms. The owners have thought of everything from a very thoughtful welcome pack to providing all the essentials (and more) for a self catering stay in the beautiful Peak District. Quiet, surrounded by stunning scenery and ideally located for short drives to some of the best walks in the Peaks. Several great walks straight from the cottage door High Wheeldon highly recommended. Plenty of pubs offering food within a few minutes drive. A well stocked Honesty Shop on site. We’ll certainly be back. Highly recommended.read moreread less

Home from home in a lovely countryside setting Stayed with partner and our 8 month old daughter in one of the picturesque, clean and homely cottages. First time away as a family and Hazel made it very comfortable for us by providing essentials for a baby such as high chair, steriliser, cot and stroller. It really made a difference! Surrounded by scenic countryside views, fresh air and lots of peace and quiet. This was an ideal first time getaway for us and would highly recommended Wheeldon Trees Cottages to anyone!

Loved it! We really enjoyed our stay here. Stayed in Mycock Cottage. It was clean, comfortable and very well appointed. Excellent location, quiet and felt out of the way and yet within a few mins drive of the main Buxton to Ashbourne road so really easy to get to anywhere in the Peak District. Some good on site amenities with an honesty shop and a couple if e-bikes which was a nice addition (we didn't have time to use them but certainly would have if we were staying a bit longer). We've spent a wonderful few days at the Sheldon cottage at Wheeldon Trees and we absolutely loved every minute of it. It really felt like time slow down and we could really relax and marvel at the beautiful surrounding nature. The views from the cottage were gorgeous in every weather and every time of the day. Every even little detail felt very thoughtful and tailored by the owners, from a tote bag filled with goodies, to white wine chilling in the fridge and handwritten welcome card. My 4 year old son absolutely loved the play area, watching playful lambs and little hiking trips from the cottage. My elderly parents really enjoyed soaking up the sun and watching sun go down between the Peak District hills. There's easy access (via car) to local pubs with nice food and various attractions including caves, GoApe and amazing gelato. The facilities are very high standard and linen is very comfy and high quality. We're already planning the return trip!

A brilliant set up here. I stayed for two nights for a road cycling event in May and the route is right the doorstop. I stayed in the Priestley two bedroom cottage which was perfect. Communications from Hazel were fist rate and the arrival tote bag full of coffee, tea, milk, butter, eggs, biscuits and wine and a few other things was very thoughtful. The kitchen has everything you’d need and there is an honesty box pantry on the site for other bits and bobs.Wireless worked great and a bonus as well to have an Amazon Alexa to use for radio etc.Beds extremely comfortable and the bed linen is luxurious.Highly recommend. Perfect cottage for Peak District walking We stayed for 3 nights at the Ollerenshaw cottage for 2. Whilst small it was perfect for a cosy base for Peak District walking. It was very well equipped with high end items and the welcome bag of goodies was lovely. The honesty shop was a lovely idea and included some luxury goods. The possibility of doing laundry is a bonus if out on muddy walks and the possibility of bike hire is a great idea. My husband did lots of walks from the cottage each evening while I cooked dinner. The glorious weather meant that we could sit out each evening watching the sunset with a glass of wine. We would definitely recommend this place as it also had great communication from the owners and it was a good central place for great Peak District walks.read moreread less

Had a 2 night break with the kids at Wheeldon Trees. They loved the top bedroom in Nadin Cottage since they could spy on us parents below. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed and more. The welcome tote bag was fab. We made use of the supplies in the games room and the kids had a good go on the outdoor play area on the second morning - the first day was too wet unfortunately! We will definitely look at coming back.

We booked last minute & stayed in the Walker's Rest. Really great communication with Hazel. Beautiful location & wonderful cottage, with everything you need for your stay. Quality everywhere from furniture to fixtures & fittings. Welcome pack with good advice on walks & food. We ate at The Royal Oak & it was excellent, only a 5 minute drive away. The well stocked shop, with honesty box to little freebies like fruit or sauce. The long room with games & bikes to use for free. Walker's Rest - beautiful cottages, set in stunning location. Superb, comfortable cottages. Fully fitted with everything & more that you need from the well equipped kitchen, cosy living room, bathroom toiletries, fixtures, fittings & excellent bedding. The welcome tote bag & goodies were amazing! The boot area was so well thought out. Free bikes to use, games room, fully stocked honesty shop was such a great idea. We had the best time & the best weather, going for walks, enjoying the tranquility, scenery & bird song. Wheeldon Hill is a great steep up & down hill, right on the doorstep, make sure you go up & watch the sunset, truly stunning on a clear evening. We travelled further out to Mam Tor, Bakewell, Matlock, Bamford Edge & the ice cream dairy farm. It was lush! The welcome pack was very helpful & had some really good advice on walks & local restaurants, but do book ahead, they fill up fast.
Only negative: Just be careful of the pot holes on some of the local roads. Drive slowly through those.
