As the festive season approaches, the Peak District comes alive with Christmas magic, and one of our absolute favourite traditions is the Peak Rail Santa Train. This is the perfect experience for families staying with us at Wheeldon Trees Cottages, offering a truly enchanting journey through the stunning Derbyshire countryside.

A Magical Journey Through the Derwent Valley

Step aboard a festive steam train at Rowsley South Station and get ready for a magical ride. As you settle into your seat, you’ll be treated to a special performance by a variety of professional entertainers. But the real highlight? Santa and his railway helpers will make their way through the train, greeting every passenger with festive cheer.

Each child will receive a wonderful, age-appropriate gift from Santa himself. In addition, there will be a delicious drink and a snack. For the grown-ups, it’s a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of wine and a traditional mince pie.

The return journey lasts approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes, giving you plenty of time to soak in the festive atmosphere and the beautiful scenery of the Derwent Valley.

Important Ticketing Information

Tickets are sold per table or compartment, not as individual seats. Due to limited space and safety reasons, only the specified number of passengers per table/compartment is permitted. Children aged 0-18 months can be accommodated on a knee, with a maximum of two per table.

Accessibility

Due to the historic nature of the carriages, only assistance dogs are allowed on the train. A dedicated wheelchair-accessible space is available in Coach F for one party of up to two people plus one wheelchair user.
